Built on cattle, not luck

Mathews Land & Cattle started as a roping cattle contractor and grew into something bigger: an outfit that produces ropings from the ground up, not just supplies the steers. "It shouldn't be a drawing competition," Oren Mathews told Team Roping Journal in 2018 — his philosophy is that a good roping comes down to consistent, well-conditioned Corriente cattle and a crew that shows up prepared, every time.

That philosophy extends to how Oren runs his crew. Key ropers haul out of his trailers, behind his trucks, roping his cattle — and if they win, he shares in it. It's a low-risk bet on people he trusts, and it's why the same faces keep showing up event after event, from the header and heeler side to the chute crew that runs cattle at every single MLC roping.

That approach has put MLC cattle in the pen at the World Series of Team Roping, USTRC, and PRCA events across the region. Whether it's a small jackpot or a finale-sized roping, the standard doesn't change.

Four ways we work

From supplying cattle for a single roping to hauling stock across state lines, it's handled in-house.

Roping Producer

We run the roping start to finish — format, advertising, payout structure, and follow-through until the last steer runs.

Cattle Contractor

Fresh Corriente cattle only, selected and conditioned for consistency — no surprises when the gate opens.

Feedlot Operations

Cattle held, fed, and managed on our own ground between events — full oversight from pasture to arena.

Livestock Trucking

Our own interstate-certified fleet — 25 trucks — hauling stock safely to and from every event.
